How MintGuard works
What is MintGuard?
A natural rodent repellent made as solid balls. Each ball combines peppermint oil, clove oil and castor oil. You place them where mice and rats travel, and the strong scent makes those areas less appealing.
Does MintGuard kill mice or rats?
No. It's a repellent, not a poison or a trap. It aims to make your home less attractive so rodents go elsewhere.
How long does one ball last?
Between 30 and 60 days. Warm, airy places use the scent up faster; cool, enclosed places like lofts make it last longer. Swap a ball when you can no longer smell it close up.
How quickly does it work?
The scent starts straight away. How fast activity drops depends on how many rodents there are, whether they still have food, and whether their entry gaps are sealed. Keep an eye on fresh droppings over the first two weeks.
Does peppermint really repel mice?
Strong scents like peppermint and clove are widely used as deterrents, but the evidence is mixed and nothing works like a force field. Scent works best when it's strong, kept fresh, and used with proofing.
Using it
How many balls do I need?
A typical home uses one pack of 12: one at each entry point and behind each large appliance. A loft, garage or car usually needs another 3 to 6 each.
Where should I put them?
Along walls, behind the cooker and fridge, under the sink, by the loft hatch, at garage door gaps, and in the car's boot and engine bay (away from hot parts).
Can I use MintGuard in my car?
Yes. That's one of the most common uses. Place balls in the boot, under the seats and on a cool, flat spot in the engine bay, well away from the exhaust, belts and moving parts. Remove them before servicing.
Can I use it outdoors or in the garden?
Scent spreads and fades quickly outside, so it works best in enclosed spaces: sheds, garages, lofts, cupboards and cars.
Will it stain surfaces?
The balls are solid, so they don't drip like neat oil. On delicate surfaces, stand them on a saucer or a piece of foil.
Safety
Is MintGuard safe around dogs and cats?
It contains no poison. Like any concentrated essential-oil product, keep the balls where pets can't chew or swallow them. Cats are sensitive to essential oils, so use it in places your cat doesn't go.
Is it safe with children?
Place balls out of reach, behind appliances or in the loft, garage or car. Don't let children handle or mouth them.
Is it safe near food?
Put it behind or under kitchen units rather than on worktops or near open food.
Why not just use poison?
Poison can harm pets that eat it, or that eat a poisoned rodent. It can also affect wildlife such as owls, and rodents may die somewhere hidden and smell. For a serious infestation, a professional pest controller is the right call.
